The Crystal Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship Fund (CRMSF) was established after a tragedy that occurred in June 2011. Crystal Andrews and Victor Rodríguez wed on June 4th of that year in Roseville, California. While on their honeymoon in the Bahamas less than two weeks later, on the day before they were scheduled to return home to begin their lives together, they went on a parasailing excursion. While at the highest point in their ride, there was an equipment malfunction, and both of them plunged into the water below. Crystal was killed. Victor sustained life-threatening trauma injuries, but survived. He started the CRMSF in early 2012 to honor the memory of his deceased wife.
Crystal graduated from the CASA Roble High School in 2007. She was known for her passion for learning, sports, family, friends, and her faith in God. Her love for life left an impression on so many people who cared for her and loved her. It is the hope of the scholarship committee members that winners of the Crystal Rodríguez Scholarship will follow Crystal’s example and use their talents and energy to actively make this world a better place to live.
The first and foremost goal of our non-profit organization is to financially assist deserving High School Seniors with their Freshman Year college expenses. We provide partial scholarships to those applicants who exhibit high scholastic achievement, participate in school extracurricular activities, commit to community involvement and assistance, and have a good work ethic. We also put an emphasis on student financial need as an important component of our scholarship selection criteria. We have given over $115,000 to deserving students.
In so doing, we honor the memory of Crystal. She exhibited all these qualities and more.
